A practical method in six steps
-------------------------------

1. **Start from the student's level:** their language, prior knowledge and goal.
2. **Split the material into small steps:** one short lesson, then practice.
3. **Explain the term in context:** then fix it by repeating it in sentences.
4. **Ask for the practice in front of you:** let the student try, then correct.
5. **Review regularly:** a short review at the start of every lesson.
6. **Return to a recognised source for rulings:** and do not reason about them yourself. Ask a scholar when needed.

What is best avoided
--------------------

- **Loading the student with everything at once:** they stumble and get discouraged.
- **Word-for-word translation of terms:** the meaning is lost.
- **Issuing fatwas on specialised questions:** those are for scholars.
